ELEMENT.

ELEMENT is a transformable display case, used to showcase student work around Carleton University’s campus. The requirements for this design-build included a design that had a maximum volume of 1 metre, a mass of less than 30 pounds, and could be assembled in less than 2 minutes.
The initial concept included a design that was made of a series of collapsible panels that unfolded and stacked to create volumes, similar to folding paper origami. These volumes were arranged in a way to engage the viewer and allow them to walk through, and around, the display case. Drawings were printed on translucent vellum and attached on the interior of the frames. The volumes were then lit from the interior, illuminating the drawings.
ELEMENT was later used as a stage installation for Carleton University’s “KOSMIC” art exhibition. The interior panels were detachable, and allowed for a custom design to be printed for the event.
